The Prince and Princess of Asturias Felipe b. 30 Jan 1968 Letizia b.15 September 1972 |
Observations The Prince and Princess of Asturias were married 22 May 2004 at the ages of 36 and 31 respectively. In the Essential Year, Felipe is in phase 6:8 while Letizia is in phase 6:2. For Felipe the marriage is an expression of complete independence and a movement away from the territory traditionally occupied by his rank. He, no doubt, is strongly influenced by his need for some unencumbered freedom and a sensation that at last he can enjoy himself as a person was meant to. For Letizia too, there is the sensation of independence from expectations, though for her, it is an independent gathering and control of resources to her, and a strong marking of her territory against outsiders. The marriage represents somewhat different things to each of them, although they are strongly compatible in the basics of handling those around them, and in maintaining the relationships of their close circle. They both have the 2 Minor which leads them towards the same love of learning, of nature and of the close home relationships. They are likely to maintain a small and private court, and they will need to choose their advisors carefully, since they are unlikely to tolerate anyone who is out to profit from an association with them. They do, however,as a couple, embody a contradiction. The Prince's Major 8, self-defensive and wary of the stretching and overstepping of the boundaries around his life that Landscape activity tends to produce, contradicts Letizia's Landscape sign, the Major 5, and her need for social involvement, contact with decision-makers and her need to absorb and make use of general opinion. They may part company over social duties: he wishing for a more informal role somewhere in the background, while she is more likely to think of entertaining in terms of hosting a salon, both of them discriminating in their choice of guests and keen to foster links between their guests. They will enjoy creating a kind of constituency of players to support them as they mingle pleasure and statecraft together. Both of them will be difficult to advise. The Prince is not one to react well at the outset to criticism and while wanting to confront it will tend to outmanouver it - although may privately take in what has been said, while Letizia will tend to simply orient the world so that criticism is neither seen nor heard. In the prince, Letizia has found a stout defender, while in Letizia, the Prince has found a Landscape princess with intelligent tastes and a gift for dynamic friendship. Letizia is keen on the home as a place to concentrate powerful forces, and will think of children as representatives of the dynastic power she has joined rather than of her personal marriage, and her children, though loved will have little time to rest easily. The Prince may well find himself intervening more and more to release the children from a complex of obligations devised by their mother. ank May 2004 |
