Elvis Presley

b. 8 January 1935 - TO8 Day 54 7:6

    Observations

Elvis was an independent mind through which the endless play of familiar themes of life found expression. The content of his art was to make ordinary things - love, the blues - seem particular and extraordinary. Everything he did had a 'spin' to it, by which we could glimpse those profound things about human beings that we recognise in every age and culture. His fame has a lasting quality that few 20th century personalities have achieved because he was opening a door of perception in each of us. Saints are made not from the absolute fame of their life (one thinks of Princess Diana, whose death strirred fantastic emotions around the world but who is already fading from memory) but from the changes they induce in each of us. The sad facts of his life have not made him the enduring person he is, but the quality of his art. The flaws are brushed aside. We are curious about them but they do not detract from him. He is now in our minds what he would have been, had he lived and fulfilled his Resolutions, a particular individual and challenging artist telling us what we need to know about our souls.

Elvis' Essential Year It's hard to remember that Elvis was only 42 when he died. It was at the end of his seventh cycle. By December of 1977 he would have started the eight cycle and be in 8:1, a conflicting and sensitive time for someone resolving to 1:8. In August he was in the middle of the changover embodying his Major and Minor Resolution. He would not have been able to see that his continued defense of his own space and thoughts - against all possible expansive and life-embracing actions - would not resolve the conflict between his generous and inspiring self and his critical and dismissive attitudes to those around him and to the actions of ordinary everyday life.

Major 7: Minor 6

Day Fifty-fours have a Minor which Antagonises their Major, and this makes them anxious and contrary, especially about the success of their work, their independence and the desire to move forward with it. Their lives appear organised and self-contained but behind their façade they are almost overwhelmed by their dreams of success and achievement. They may cultivate an air of disinterestedness but they like to put their personal stamp or interpretation on the grand notions at the centre of their world. Day Fifty-fours have long range goals that even they may find difficult to define precisely, yet they are determined planners towards those aims, making the most of whatever happens to keep them in the general direction they wish to travel. They are compassionate and thoughtful, and have a great deal of charm when they are relaxed, but managing people can upset their balance. They are resourceful followers of key people rather than leaders. They may prefer the planning stage to the achievement, and tend to be always in preparation but never quite ready to begin; always re-drafting and never quite finishing. Though they are keen for success and recognition, they find it hard to judge when to be independent and when to be in a team. Their seriousness and remoteness can be attractive and sexy, and hint at all sorts of possibilities, but they may tend to over-manage their relationships, and spend too much time on the structure rather than on the essence. They have an interest in the grand gesture, and believe that history is made by them. They are likely to be enthusiasts for strange and curious facts and the hidden agenda of the creative powers of the Universe beneath the banal surface of events. As observers, they are interested in the strong passions and sacrificial gestures that give heroes a special place in the community. They can look at a common-place task, and think how lucky they are to have something more unusual and serious to do. They like to be in on the events that make history or belong to a foundation project of a community. They may have a sensation of making themselves ready for the path to take, for the task to begin, but not knowing exactly which one it should be. They identify strongly with their projects and find it hard to compromise with others. They try to find clues to life among the exceptional. But their desire to keep things out of the hands of any but the chosen few, doesn't help them finish anything. They think that nothing is a coincidence and keenly hope for the big break, but may not recognise it when it comes. Even if the big break comes, they may be unable to let it carry them along without trying to meddle with it before it has done its work.
