AW: So what else is in this Landscape?

Gabriel Marquez in One Hundred Years of Solitude has a character remarking that he does not want to play in a game (ie a contest) in which the rules have been agreed upon beforehand. The Landscape of social reality is at one end of the continuum about behaviours agreed upon beforehand - it's about the orthodoxy of the day. The Landscape includes the rules we make, the procedures we follow, and the rewards and satisfactions we get for doing those things. At the other end, it is also about competing for 'advancement' with your peers - which is to say, getting your mind to think into the future. It's an ordered process, it must be said, and certainly not open-ended. The Landscape regulates the procedures and outlines the pathways for competition. It looks for the proven result, the best action and then fixes the reward for it....
